What voice to educators have in the Museum? What is Museum Learning and Museum Experience? How can we describe the education / mediation / communication professionals?
The International Committee for Professional Training in Museums (ICTOP) establishes some main skills for the Museum professionals, that involve communication and management dimensions.
With a common training framework, created by Mapa das Ideias and tested in the Portuguese reality, museum and heritage education professionals can develop their skills, in communication, education and management for the museum and cultural heritage settings.
Through the two-year project this training course was tested and discussed. The project partners (with exception of Denmark) undertook a research concerning the professional and institutional context and status of museum mediators in their countries.
With this results, as well as the reading of a selection of academic papers, case studies and interviews, it was possible to recreate the original course and build upon it.
By creating this common ground, it is possible to further develop a professional and certified system where professionals can evolve through a career standard and, also, create networks and mobility projects across the EU.
The next steps relate with the development and sustainability of this network, abiding to this project’s principles: the creation of a professional network and think tank, the future development of a Master degree, as well as professional training courses.
